Newborn Beanie
I only just started crocheting baby clothing, for a cousin who is expecting her first baby after many years of trying. I was surprised by just how much fun it is, and decided to try my hand at some simple design.
Newborn Beanie
Finished Size
Circumference 11", height 51/2"
You will need:
Worsted weight yarn, approx 1 oz/50 yd
5.5 mm hook
Yarn needle
Notes
You will be working into slip stitch in each round so keep stitch size even with other stitches.
Ch 1 at beginning of each round doesn't count in stitch count.
HDC through back/3rd loop together are worked for flatter/tighter stitches (modification to BLO HDC). See pictures below for specifics.
Stitch Abbreviations
Ch = chain
St = stitch(es)
Sl st = slip stitch
HDC = half double crochet
FPHDC = front post half double crochet
Pattern
Round 1
Using magic circle, ch 1, then 8 HDC, sl st to top of 1st HDC. (8 st)
Round 2
Ch 1, 2 HDC in each st, sl st to top of 1st HDC. (16 st)
Round 3
Ch 1, *2 HDC through back/3rd loop in 1st st, 1 HDC through back/3rd loop in next st*, repeat to end, sl st to top of 1st HDC. (24 st)
Round 4
Ch 1, *2 HDC in 1st st, 1 HDC in next 2 st*, repeat to end, sl st to top of 1st HDC. (32 st)
Round 5
Ch 1, HDC into back/3rd loop in 1st st and remaining st around, sl st to top of 1st HDC. (32 st)
Round 6
Ch 1, HDC into 1st st and remaining st around, sl st to top of 1st HDC. (32 st)
Rounds 7-13
Repeat rounds 5 and 6.
Rounds 14-15
Ch 1,* FPHDC in 1st st, HDC in next st*, repeat in remaining st around, sl st to top of HDC.
Bind off and sew in ends.
