Jay Jay's Star Beanie

This beanie came about because a friend and fellow Aussie (Jay Jay) started an informal grass roots campaign amongst Australian expats, to feed and provide for the hygiene, clothing and warming needs of homeless people in Los Angeles.  Once a month he throws an Aussie bbq with his wonderful beef sausages (not brats or hotdogs, proper Aussie "snags") and hands out the other donated items.

So I challenged myself to make as many beanies as I could, and create a quick and simple pattern that was easily remembered and replicated.  It's worked from the bottom up, which helps to control my tendency to end up with a wide and loose brim. The decrease at the crown creates a 6 point star burst effect.

To make different sizes - just switch up your hook and follow the same pattern!  It's also economical, as the yarn runs about $1.15 a hat, in commonly used jumbo skein brands.

Enjoy...and do me a favour, make an extra one or two when you can, to donate to charities near you.
